In Un certain regard, the clients of Lebenshilfe Berlin tackle the central topics of BERLIN GLOBAL: Thinking the world, Revolution, Free Space, Boundaries, Entertainment, War, Fashion and Interconnection. The artists engage with the content of the exhibition as well as with their individual view of Berlin: The handicapping obstacles they encounter every day shape their experiences and perceptions of the city. Thus, the exhibition concludes with a change of perspective in the Open Space.
Un certain regard was realised at Kunstwerkstatt Kreuzberg, the Lebenshilfe Berlin art studio, where the artists came together over several workshops to discuss the central themes and develop their own visual approaches. Each person’s connections to particular topics or artistic techniques were essential to the process. Some of the works are collaborations; others are individual creations.
The idea for the project came from David Permantier, who runs Kunstwerkstatt Kreuzberg and has initiated cultural and political projects related to inclusion at Lebenshilfe Berlin for many years. As well as regularly taking part in the creative process, Kunstwerkstatt clients also hold their own exhibitions and advise museums and other institutions about inclusion and agency.
